Weight a Minute!

When you think of the word “weight”, what kind of reaction does it stir up in your soul? Do you immediately start thinking of your dreaded “number”? You know… the number that you sheepishly hope will miraculously decrease by three pounds when you step on the scale each morning.

If you are like most Americans, you probably want to avoid the subject all together. Unfortunately, in this “weight” conscious, superficial society, it’s really hard to ignore. At every turn, there are advertisements for the latest diet craze, workout plan, colon cleanse, lipo-surgery, gastric bypass, or countless other methods for obtaining that “magical number.” But if you are like a growing number of Americans who are obese or morbidly obese, and are really struggling, that “number” can seem insurmountable.

What if we eliminated the “number”? What if we concentrated on the ways to support and encourage one another without the ball and chain of the scale? What if we started thinking about how our healthier choices would positively affect others?

For example instead of thinking about how many pounds you need to lose, start thinking of the “number” of years that will be added to your life by taking better care of yourself. Think of the “number” of sleepless nights your spouse or family members have worried about you and how this change would be a welcome relief to their weary soul. Or how about the “number” of lives you have yet to change because of all the gifts and talents that God has bestowed upon you. You see, we don’t have to have our weight weigh us down (literally or figuratively.) Let’s start using the “magic number” to create a real change within our hearts, families and toward our health. And inevitably, we will always end up “Number One”!!!!
